Hey, my first car was an Escort. I couldn't afford any better. --Ed Poor
Thanks, Tarquin. Nothing like threatening to delete an article, to inspire a bit of quick research, eh? --Ed Poor
[edit] The "World car"
This article concentrates mostly on the Brintish and European Escort. I have interspersed some stuff about the American version, but it seems like the timeline between the two [1] is not very closely related, and the American and European versions do not actually share that many parts. I do not know how to fix this; it seems like a lot of work to seperate the two timelines completely. Interspersing the American and European changes also seems messy and confusing. Being a "World Car" versions were also being sold in Australia and Asia. The American Escort is still being made with the 2005 Escort ZX2 [2], while the European model was killed in 2000. I'm not sure what to do, so please help if you can.– PlatinumX 20:47, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Where was it built?
I think it might be good to have a reference to where each of the various models were built.... but I only have part of that info. Maybe we can share?
First version -- Wayne, Michigan; Edison, New Jersey; Saarlouis, Germany; can't remember whether the UK plant was Dagenham or Halewood.
Second NA version -- Wayne, Michigan and Hermosillo, Mexico...
Wayne remained an Escort plant until the Focus was introduced. I believe the ZX2 stayed on in Hermosillo....
I know the Saarlouis plant built Escort through the mid-90s, probably stayed until the European end. UK plants I lost track of, except that I know Halewood is a Jaguar facility now.--Pmeisel 13:28, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Split up
This page was just too long and complicated. I decided to split it up into the two pages we now have. --SFoskett 21:59, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
