Freaklabel is an Iowa-based metalcore/groove metal band. Freaklabel started as a local favorite that consistently played clubs for their first year. After gaining a reputation for their live show the band began getting requests from national acts to open their midwest tour dates. Freaklabel later recorded a demo (in two collectable versions) which included their live closer "Gut Bucket" as well as fan favorite "Shackles". The band immediately sold out of their 2000 printed copies which not only showcased the style they pioneered, working class metal, but garnered courtships from various labels. In the end Freaklabel chose Provoke Productions in order to keep artistic freedom. The band then started writing material for a new studio album but decided a live album, which the band is known for, was what the Gear Heads (as their fans are affectionately referred to) wanted. On January 28, 2006 freaklabel recorded "Live & Brutal" in their hometown of Cedar Rapids in front of 500 Gear Heads at the band's favorite venue, 3rd Street Live. On the strength of the album's first single "Dissecting the Tapeworm", "Live & Brutal" was released nationally July 11th 2006. Freaklabel is currently touring the United States. As of early September 2006, Freaklabel has been performing a new song titled "The Open Sea" during their live sets showing a huge leap technical prowess. This along with a few other songs have been or are in the writing stage for the next Freaklabel studio album. Following a successful run of shows Drummer Doug Callahan decided he would be stepping down from his position. Doug made the choice to focus on other endeavers stating that Freaklabel would be better off finding a drummer with a more technical slant. Already having a few sporatic shows scheduled prior to Doug's announcement, he chose to continue with Freaklabel until after the final show November 26th, 2006. An announcement of who Doug's replacement will be is scheduled for early to mid-2007 to coincide with the new albums release. Some speculate that the virtually unknown Ben Carrillo (ex-Suicide High) will be the next skinsman. He is noted for his amazing technical skill and spectacular drumstick tricks while playing live. A retooled band logo made it's appearance on the band's official website shortly after the first of the year. On February 1st the official Freaklabel website posted all new photos of the band featureing none other than Ben Carrillo as the fourth member, securing rumors to be true. Freaklabel are currently writing for their new studio album due in April. New song "The Open Sea" rumored to be on the track list as well as a song that has been mentioned by fans across the net with a title of "The Subtleties of War".
