Fred McAfee

Fred McAfee (born June 20, 1968 in Philadelphia, Mississippi) is a running back in the National Football League who played for the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McAfee attended Philadelphia High School (Philadelphia, Mississippi) and was a student and a letterman in football. In football, he won All-District honors. Fred McAfee graduated from Philadelphia High School in 1986.

After playing his college ball at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, he was drafted by the Saints in 1991 as the 293rd pick overall in the sixth round. He was also a member of the Saints first ever NFC West Divisional Championship team. The 1991 season was his most prolific offensively as he rushed for a career high 109 times for 494 yards and two touchdowns. He has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and spent time on the Kansas City Chiefs in 1999. On November 9, 1994, Fred McAfee signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. On April 12, 1996, Fred McAfee re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While he was with the Steelers, he played in Super Bowl XXX. On August 8, 1999, McAfee signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, less than a month after signing with the Chiefs, on August 31, 1999, he was released by the Chiefs. On December 28, 1999, McAfee signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the 1999 season, Fred played in only one game. On October 2, 2000, Fred McAfee signed with the team that drafted him back in 1991, the New Orleans Saints. On June 5, 2001, McAfee re-signed with the Saints. Throughout his second stint with the Saints, Fred McAfee re-signed and declared free agency numerous times with the Saints. McAfee is well known for his contributions and leadership on special teams units. He was elected to go to the Pro Bowl in 2002 for his special team efforts. He is also known for his tremendous work ethic, being a leader on and off the football field, and bringing a camaraderie to the locker room.He is aloknown to be very greatful of fans' appreciation and is very kind to them. During his second stint with the Saints, for 6 seasons, Fred had only seven attempts for an amazing 117 yards combined for those 6 seasons. On August 28, 2006, Fred McAfee was cut by the New Orleans Saints, thus making him a free agent eligible to sign with any NFL team. McAfee was re-signed by the Saints on November 21, 2006. On December 27, 2006, McAfee was waived by the Saints. Two days later, he was re-signed by the Saints and scored a touchdown on December 31, 2006 against the Carolina Panthers. This was Fred's first NFL touchdown since he scored in 1995 for the Steelers. A few weeks later, on January 10, 2006, McAfee was placed on the Injured Reserve list by the Saints, reportedly to make roster room for newly-signed place kicker Billy Cundiff.
