Yeah they have an Air Force, knobby.

They build their own airplanes and everything. During the Falkland Islands War, that British ship that got hit by Argentinian aircraft was hit by French made anti-shipping missiles - which later on scared the Americans so much that they decided to build the phalanx anti-missile system - despite the fact the Soviet Union already had more dangerous missiles in their arsenal for some time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.52.5.224 (talk • contribs) 19:13 UTC, April 16, 2006 (UTC)

Now that's what I call in-depth knowledge! The Falkland Island War took place in 1982. The Phalanx CIWS was developed during the 70's. --Paveway 12:27, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] First "Air Force"

This claim, even qualified as it is, is disingenuous. The Americans clearly have a claim by three years on any military organization using airplanes, even if part of the Army or Navy. The article acknowledges that the French Air Force as a separate service did not exist until the 30's, so if this is the criterion, then the RAF gets the nod, 1918 you know.--Buckboard 18:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
