Gérard Caussé

Gérard Caussé was born in Toulouse, France in 1948 and he is the maestro who has returned to the viola its renown and freedom as a solo instrument. He gave the first performance of the celebrated Ainsi la nuit quartet by Henri Dutilleux. His close association with the classical repertoire has earned him the most prestigious prizes. He has shared the stage in both orchestral and chamber music with musicians such as Emmanuel Krivine, Charles Dutoit, Kent Nagano and others. His recordings include more than thirty-five issued under labels such as EMI, Erato and Philips. Gérard Caussé is holder of the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria Chair of Viola at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía.
