[edit] Characters
- Adil the Genie
Adil was born in the sixth century in the suburbs of Balamkadaar.
His father was a genie (to be found today in a bottle of pop at the bottom of the Nile) and his mother was a teacher of the Dance of the Seven Veils. Like all kids, Adil went to school, only his was a Genie School, the world famous School for Genie Arts and Sciences. Adil climbed into a lamp for a dare, strictly forbidden for first year students, and got himself stuck.
Unfortunately the forty thieves chose that very night to break in and steal it. Then began a journey that lasted 17 centuries before arriving in the hands of Sophie and Emma.
- Philip Norton
Emma and Sophie's dad. He's a talented and successful designer but, having to constantly meet the deadlines set by his boss, Max, and bring up two teenage girls is pretty much a full-time occupation. Adil is categorically forbidden to grant Emma and Sophie wishes for two reasons:
- It's a very bad habit to get what you want simply by clicking your fingers.
- If anyone found out there was a genie in the house, life would become very difficult.
If the girls break this rule, he has no hesitation in using the full range of traditional punishments. He'll ground his daughters, he'll withhold their pocket money or forbid them from staying at their aunt's house in the country, or all of the above. But if Adil does break the rule and grant his daughters their wishes, he is severely punished. The most effective punishment being to lock him up in the lamp for the entire weekend!
- Sophie Norton
She is passionate about what makes the world tick, she's fascinated in everything from the anatomy of a red ant to the conquest of space!. But that doesn't stop her making wishes, and (almost) everytime Adil gets them wrong and has to enlist the help of Emma to fix them. Her favourite lessons are physics, chemistry, history and geography and would love to go to university and to study as many subjects and languages as possible!.
And then there's......
- Emma Norton
The complete opposite of Sophie. She hates school, tests and homework. But she does manage to get by without too much difficulty but without any brilliance. She loves reading, but much prefers a good story over boring facts and figures in text-books. She gets on well with Adil, she loves to hear his stories of Louis XV and she doesn't care if he's making it up or not. He makes her dream and that's more important than anything else. She also forgets loads of things, she never puts anything away and has a great deal of difficulty in finishing what she's started.
- Max Baxter
Philip's boss, Max baxter a legend in his own lunchtime. Philip is, of course, an incredibly talented designer, but, it goes without saying that, without the supreme marketing skills and never-say-die attitude of Max, he would go nowhere fast. He has already invented the Max baxter Egg and Soldier Holder, but Philip insists that it is his idea. Max is having nothing of it and will take the credit with absolutely no problem whatsoever!
- Caroline Smart
Philip's helping hand around the house and with the girls. Although, technically she lives next door, she managed to persuade Philip years ago to give her a key to the house so she can come and go as necessary.
