Gesualdo is an Italian commune in the region of Campania, province of Avellino, with about 3,800 inhabitants.
It borders Sturno, Villamaina, Frigento, Fontanarosa, Grottaminarda.
Actress Ellen Pompeo's parents came from here.
It was the residential village of italian composer Carlo Gesualdo
The italian director, Bernardo Bertolucci, is making a movie about the drammatic Carlo Gesualdo's life and music. Also german director, Werner Herzog, shoot a movie in the village (Death at five voices). Italian artist, Franco Battiato, being captured by Gesualdo's music, composed a song entitled to the musician (Gesualdo da Venosa) The village has a small but well-preserved monumental site with many churches, fountains, great belvederes and a huge middle-age castle which is partially re-built after a tragic earthquake in the 80s (Irpinia earthquake, 1980).
