Giedo van der Garde (born April 25, 1985 in Rhenen, The Netherlands) is a Dutch racing driver.

[edit] Formula Renault
Van der Garde finished sixth in the Formula Renault 2000 Championship in 2003. From then on he was part of the Renault F1 Training Programme, but was dropped due to lack of performance the year later.

From 2004 to 2006, van der Garde has competed in the Formula Three Euroseries, taking a total of one win and three pole positions. However, he has yet to mount an assault on the championship crown. He had a good chance in 2006, but a lot of bad luck and breaking down made him look like he was slow, while he was one of the three fastest drivers.
[edit] McLaren Young Driver's Programme
During 2006, van der Garde was part of the McLaren Young Driver's Programme, who tried to help him to make it in Formula 1. After being announced as third driver by Super Aguri, he was removed from the McLaren internet site. But he and his manager announced he was still part of the team.

On December 15, 2006, van der Garde was confirmed as the Super Aguri Formula One team's test and reserve driver for the 2007 season.[1]

On February 1, 2007, van der Garde was unexpectedly announced by Spyker F1 as the team's test and reserve driver.[2] On February 2, 2007 Super Aguri confirmed their belief their existing contract with van der Garde was still in force, stating "Super Aguri F1 Team has a valid contract with Giedo van der Garde to drive for the team in the position of Friday and Test Driver for the 2007 FIA Formula One™ World Championship. The contract was submitted by the SAF1 Team to the Contracts Recognition Board on 23rd January 2007."[3]

On December 17, 2006, van der Garde also announced that he will drive World Series by Renault for Victory Engineering, a team that works together with Carlin Motorsport, causing him to say he will work together again with Sebastian Vettel, his ASM teammate.
