Gilleasbuig Macmillan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Very Reverend Gilleasbuig Iain Macmillan, CVO, FRSE, has served since 1973 as Minister of St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh, which is often described as the mother church of Presbyterianism. He is Dean of the Thistle and a Chaplain to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland.
[edit] Biography
He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh (M.A., B.D.).
In July 1999, he presided at the "Kirking of the Parliament", a special service of blessing, attended by the Queen, for the newly established Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
Macmillan was widely tipped for the selection as Moderator of the General Assembly in 1996 and again in 2002, but failed to win sufficient support. According to The Scotsman (30 October 2002), "Although he has a high public profile in the capital, and inside the Kirk, insiders felt he was not universally popular."
