Ground combat element

In the United States Marine Corps, the Ground combat element is the land force of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) . It has the mission of locating, closing with and destroying the enemy with fire and manuever and repelling the enemies assault with fire and close combat. Within the Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), the ground combat element is a reinforced infantry battalion; in the Marine Expeditionary Brigade, it is a infantryregiment; while in the Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), it is a division.
