Guardian of the Sacred Spirit (精霊の守り人 Seirei no Moribito?) is the first in the "Guardian" series of fantasy novels by Nahoko Uehashi. An anime television series based on the novels and directed by Kenji Kamiyama began broadcasting on April 7, 2007. At the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2007 in March, Geneon announced they have acquired the license to the anime, and Scholastic announced they have US distribution rights to the novels.[1]

The novel series was published in hardback by Kaiseisha as children's literature, but has many adult fans. The first volume is slated for release in bunko size by Shinchosha in March 2007. The Tabibito series takes place in the same world, but with different characters.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex fame, the anime began broadcasting on NHK on April 7, 2007.
