Hard border

The hard borders still exist at the edges of nation state-territories coping with security controls issues and unable to confide the movement of illegal immigrants, terrorists and traffickers in people and drugs. There is a two way view about rethinking borders on the one hand there is a borderless movement that is created for the sake of economic mobility, creating economic growth while on the other hand there are security concerns and worries about open borders and governments wish to control flows of migrant, workers ,refugees and terrorists. This had led to a still ongoing debate about the changing role of borders. The following three examples help to underline the difficult relationship between borders and the society. The UK now has some reciprocal agreements with Belgium and France about border control in those countries. The objective of these initiatives is to enhance the national security by making it more difficult for illegal immigrants to come to the UK. The threat of the failed 21/7 attack on London states that the use of ‘mobile borders’ in Brittan is in its first phase of implementation. The second example illustrates the relationship between borders and society as well. The 7/7 bombings in London would users who use the internet in public cafes in Italy and public callcenters to themselves before using the communication facilities. This development states the fact that bordering and rebordering not only take place at the territorial boundaries but also in airport motor highways, where people are checking for illegal immigrants. The new flow of networking of borders and their diffusion throughout society have led to a new importance for the land border. A striking example is the assault of North African refugees in the Spanish cities ceuta and Mellila, trying to enter Europe. The networked borders that are not necessarily located near territorial borders are a barrier for the refugees from Africa who have not the valid papers for entering Europe. They in fact rely on the possibility to cross the’ hard’ borders.
Borders are changing the geographical meaning of the border is becoming less important even so the military meaning of the borders. Borders are more than just open and closed. They are mobile and dispersed. Important notice is that borders are not experienced in the same way by people(Yuvall-Davis, 2004). Borders are subjective and can change, the way we experience borders and how we interpret them depends on our personae.
