Hazel Aden was a fictional character portrayed by Andrea Lewis in Degrassi: The Next Generation.

[edit] Paige's sidekick
In her beginning episodes she was Paige Michalchuk's sidekick. Like Paige, Hazel is a popular fashionista at Degrassi Community School with a sharp tongue who was also a member of the school's Spirit Squad. Paige was barely seen without Hazel by her side through good times and bad.

[edit] Hiding her true self
During an 'International Day' school event, Hazel pretended to be Jamaican to hide her Muslim heritage. She even bullied another Muslim girl named Fareeza to prove a false point. When a couple of students destroyed Fareeza's presentation on Iraq with spraypaint by labeling it as terroism, Hazel was devastated for her because it brought back painful memories of the time she was violently harassed at her old school because of her culture. After making peace with Fareeza, Hazel revealed in a class presentation that she was really born in Mogadishu, Somalia to Muslim immigrants.

[edit] Rick and Terri
Hazel was the first one to figure out that Rick was physically abusing Terri. Blinded by love, Terri accused Hazel of being jealous when she asked her to be honest and admitt to what Rick was doing to her. Terri got really upset at Hazel and ran off angry. Hazel and Terri made up after she finally decided to dump Rick, at least for the time being.

Hazel accidentally looked at a porn site and gets caught and has to spend a Saturday in detention with Jimmy Brooks, Sean Cameron, Toby Isaacs, and Ellie Nash at first she didn't want to do anything with them but eventually come around and started to like them, especially Jimmy who gave her a necklace that they found on the roof and then shared a kiss.At the beginning of detention, Hazel was dared by Jimmy to kiss Toby. This started the new relationship of Jimmy and Hazel.

[edit] The Shooting
Hazel and Jimmy were against Rick being back at Degrassi after he put Terri into a coma and tried to get him out of Degrassi but after awhile, Jimmy decided to be nice to Rick however his friend Spinner and his friends Jay and Alex were still bullying him and decided to pour paint on him leading to Rick bringing a gun to school and shooting Jimmy after being led to believe Jimmy was lying about their friendship. Hazel stuck with Jimmy throughout his recovery.

[edit] Breaking up with Jimmy
Hazel starts to feel like Jimmy is drifting apart from her as he doesn't have much interest in sports or her and seems to be spending more time with Ellie and, after Jimmy wins the chance to paint a mural, he paints Ellie into the mural. That's the last straw for her and she dumps Jimmy for being too close with Ellie.

Hazel and Alex never got along so it didn't help that Paige was Alex's friend which eventually become something more. Although Hazel isn't homophobic, she didn't like the fact that Paige was dating someone she disliked but on Paige's behalf they tried to be nice to each other which didn't work at first but after Paige stops talking to both of them,they decide to try again and a playful cappucino fight ensues, after which the three girls end up laughing about it in the mall security office.

Hazel graduated from Degrassi: Community School. It is implied that she went away to college
