Talk:Hera Agathon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Kacey

If Hera has her own article, I think Casey deserves one to. I still believe she may be a hybrid. Her's will probably be just a short stub, but it should be present in case she is a hybrid, in which case she will become infinately more important. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 170.140.39.141 (talk) 20:36, November 6, 2006 (UTC)

Kasy was created by someone in October. Zyxwvutsrqp 23:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reorganization of "Hera" articles

I think there are several changed that need to be made to this and related articles:

  1. The name of this article needs changing. "Cylon-Human" isn't really appropriate as a disambiguator. First of all, it's an in-universe reference, and second, it doesn't follow Wikipedia's disambiguation conventions (disambiguators are as generic as possible. Specific character traits are never used). There are no other existing articles named Hera that relate to Battlestar Galactica, so I propose renaming this one to Hera (Battlestar Galactica) (Yes, I know there's a page there already. See below).
  2. The disambiguation-ish page currently at Hera (Battlestar Galactica) isn't really necessary. It points to a non-existing main article ("Hera (Lady of Kobol)"), which will most likely never be needed or written, and contains no other necessary or unique information. It's more a collection of BSG Wiki links than a disambiguation page. If the article on the character is moved to that name, all that would be needed is a dablink at the top that includes "For the Colonial goddess, see Lords of Kobol", and a note in the character's bio that explains whom she was named after.

I've already added the dab text and the note on the origin of the name. The rest of the text in the current Hera disambiguation page is insignificant, so moving this one there should be a non-issue. Any objections? -- Fru1tbat 14:27, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't Hera be Hera Agathon or Hera Valerii? 132.205.93.19 04:07, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I hadn't thought of that. Considering she was with her birth parents for a small percentage of her life so far and has never been referred to as "Hera Agathon", it might be best to leave the last name out of it. Either way, I think "Cylon-Human" needs to go. -- Fru1tbat 13:33, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Her parents are the Agathons. According to conventional wiki standards, that's her name. It's also the only possible differentiation if "Cylon-Human" is thrown out. That way the disambiguation page remains. -- Noneofyourbusiness 18:42, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
"Hera Agathon" is at least better than "Hera (Cylon-Human)", but I object to the move being made without discussion, as obviously there was some debate here, and I wouldn't consider it a trivial and non-controversial move.
I also disagree with the reasons cited. In the page move itself, "wiki policy" was cited. The policy at WP:NCP clearly states that it does not apply to fictional characters. What policy were you referring to? Second, as to your comments above, the last name isn't the only possible differentiation. I don't have much of a problem with the current name, and for now, I'm content to leave it as is, but it's frowned upon by the community here to make unilateral moves and such when there has been previous debate, and no clear consensus has been reached.
--Fru1tbat 20:41, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree that the new name is not appropriate and support Fru1tbat's solution. CovenantD 20:59, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Okay, sorry if I ruffled any feathers, it was unintentional. It's been moved to Hera Agathon on Battlestar Wiki, so I thought there would be no debate or controversy here. The new name, however, is certainly appropriate given that her parents are the Agathons. -- Noneofyourbusiness 00:32, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
No worries, although I think your reasoning for the new name is faulty. Not all babies carry the surname of their parents even in the real world, and this child in particular is a fictional being with a convoluted backstory that could make anything possible. Until it's revealed in-story, it really does smack of Original Research. CovenantD 00:49, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Really, not all children have their parents' surname in the real world even if their parents have the same surname and the child in question isn't adopted? Are you sure? Anyway, I suppose you're right that her not having been called Hera Agathon is a point against it as long as she isn't with her parents, but once they reclaim her it'll be a different story. -- Noneofyourbusiness 00:56, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm sure - I know of at least three people in my immediate circle of friends. And you're assuming that Helo and Sharon will reclaim her.... ;) CovenantD 01:24, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
I know it for a fact, though spoilers don't get incorporated into Wikipedia before they come to pass. How did that come to be true of your friends? -- Noneofyourbusiness 03:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey, if you've got a reliable source for the spoiler then it could be included - it's rumor and speculation we have to avoid. I hope you understand that I prefer not to discuss my personal life (or that of my friends) in so public a forum. I'm getting cautious in my old age :) CovenantD 04:45, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Are casting sides and previews, reliable sources? -- Noneofyourbusiness 17:38, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure without knowing more specifics about them. Have you looked at the reliable sources guidelines? If that doesn't help, maybe you could put a draft of what you want to add here or on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Battlestar Galactica page for others to evaluate. [edit] Innaccuracies about Hera Agathon's history

There are a couple of inaccuracies on this page. As a brand new user, I don't feel confident to actually edit the main page myself. But here are the problems: (1) The page currently claims that the kidnap of Hera from her parents was arranged by President Roslin and Admiral Adama. In fact, Admiral Adama had no knowledge of the kidnap and thought, like everyone else, that the baby had died. Adama did not learn of the kidnap until "The Eye of Jupiter" after Boomer (Sharon Valerii) tells Athena (Sharon Agathon) that Hera is still alive and aboard a Cylon base ship, and that on New Caprica Hera had been seen in Laura Roslin's school. Adama confronts Roslin with this claim, and she confirms it -- to Adama's seeming disgust. Adama's ignorance of the kidnap is crucial to the relationship of trust between him and Athena. See Battlestar Wiki's page on Hera Agathon, which has a more accurate account of the kidnap. (2) At one point the page refers to Hera's mother as "Boomer." This is innaccurate. Boomer is Sharon Valerii, the former Galactica officer who shot Adama and was shot in turn by Cally. Hera's mother is Athena, Sharon Agathon. Hope I did this right. Yksin 18:23, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Never mind, I'm figuring it out and am going to make corrections. Also watched all the relevant scenes from "Downloaded" to ensure my changes are accurate. I've already been correcting other pages that I find which misidentify Sharon "Athena" Agathon as "Boomer." --Yksin 03:06, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

These inaccuracies are probably from an older time when it was assumed that Adama was in on the plan and Sharon wasn't yet using the callsign Athena. No one else caught them (including me, darn it). -- Noneofyourbusiness 21:49, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
