Highlands Elementary was opened in 1996. It gives education to kids in grades pre-k to fifth grade. Changes have occurred many times in clubs at the school, now the even have after school electives. The school also has two bands. During the 2004 hurricanes, the school suffered damage to the school grounds. There has also been some vandalism, but not severe. Some vandalism was caused by cats in the herb gardens shredding up catnip. The school is very successful being an A+ school with five stars.

Highlands Elementary is located on Shepard Rd. in Winter Springs Fl. The school property covers an area that is about 480,000 feet. Most of the property is surrounded by woods. The land includes gardens, a field, a pavilion, two story brick school building, a car ramp, a bus ramp, and a few portables.
