[edit] Name
37signals originally publicised the software under the name "Sunrise",[3] although this was changed to "Highrise" before the product's launch.
“We were advised against using Sunrise because of potential trademark conflicts. Highrise was actually the name we came up with before Sunrise so we’re going back to the original.”[1]
Jason Fried, 37signals CEO and co-founder
[edit] Pre-launch publicity
The impending launch of Highrise was announced on 37signals' blog, Signal vs. Noise, on February 12 2007.[1] A Highrise website was also launched at around the same time, allowing interested parties to sign up to receive news of the application's launch,[4] and the chance to get a "golden ticket", for a pre-release trial of the application.[5] In the pre-launch period, 37signals' are releasing 'sneak-peeks' of some of Highrise's features via their Signal vs. Noise blog.[6]
[edit] Features
The primary features of Highrise include:
- Person pages, which can include a photo, title, company, etc.
- To-do lists which can be assigned to specific people and send email/SMS reminders.
- Notes which can be attached to person pages, company pages and cases, and may also have related files attached.
- Company pages, which are similar to person pages although they serve an entire company.
- Cases, which are pages where related notes, images, and people can be kept.
- Email dropboxes, unique email addresses to which emails can be forwarded (CC or BCC) and Highrise will attach the email to the appropriate person's page.
- Access permissions mean cases can be assigned to specific people or groups, keeping them private from others.
- Support for importing vCard and Basecamp data.
