WP Former Countries - Things to do:
Open tasks for WikiProject Former countries Edit
- Correct links: Correct any wikilinks that you find anywhere on Wikipedia where the link is to the wrong version of the state. Some examples of bad links:
- Referring to the former Free City of Lübeck (an independent entity for 711 years), but the link goes to the modern city of Lübeck.
- Referring to Napoleon's France, where the link instead goes to modern France.
- Create redirects: If the article for the correct state does not yet exist, create a redirect to the nearest existing article (if possible) and place {{WPFC|class=Needed}} on the redirect's talk page. Whether or not a redirect has been created, list the wanted article below under "Needed".
Article improvement
After performing any of these tasks, re-rate the entry via the WPFC banner, and remove the article from the relevant list.
- Expand: Confederation of the Rhine, Straits Settlements, Belgian Congo, Free City of Lübeck, Kingdom of Ireland, North German Confederation, Spanish East Indies
- Stubs: Adamawa Emirate, Baranya-Baja Republic, Kingdom of Redonda, Piratini Republic, United States of Colombia
- Needed: Kingdom of Bavaria Nyasaland
- Assess: Anjouan, Austrian Empire, German East Africa, Orange Free State
Articles requiring particular elements
After providing the requested element, please remove the relevant tag from the article's WPFC banner and remove the article from this list.

[edit] Page protection
I've protected this because of the reverting between Yuber and John McW over the passage below, which is also being disputed at Syria. Could Yuber say what's wrong with it? Please discuss it on the talk page here or at Talk:Syria, with no more reverting. SlimVirgin (talk) 03:38, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Lebanese scholar Habib C. Malik has called the influx of Syrian workers into Lebanon "nothing short of a movement toward Syrian colonization of Lebanon." (Between Damascus and Jerusalem: Lebanon and Middle East Peace (The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, 1997), p. 42). In 1994, under pressure from Syria, the Lebanese government granted citizenship to over 200,000 Syrians resident in the country. Syrian nationals make up at least one-third of Lebanon's resident population. [2]
- As neither John nor Yuber has responded, I'm unprotecting. Please don't either of you revert this again. Discuss it here between you on talk, leave the current version as it is, or invite other editors to join the discussion. SlimVirgin (talk) 21:42, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

- POV quotes don't belong in a history article. Habib C. Malik's quote does not relate to the general History of Syria. Yuber(talk) 22:43, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Roman province
Why does the Roman province of Syria direct to this page? I'd like to find out what Roman provinces bordered Syria, but instead I get an article about Baath party politics.
[edit] French attack
Why did the French attack Syria in 1920? What was their interest in gaining control of the country? -- Beland 00:04, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
