HMS Sans Pareil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Three ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Sans Pareil. The first of these was captured from the French navy and kept her French name, which means "without equal". The name thus became a traditional Royal Navy ship name.
- The first Sans Pareil was an 80-gun third-rate ship of the line, launched by France in 1793, which was captured by the Royal Navy in 1794 during the battle of the Glorious First of June; she was broken up in 1842.
- The second Sans Pareil was a screw-driven 81-gun second-rate ship of the line, launched in 1851, which served in the Crimean War; she was broken up in 1867.
- The third Sans Pareil was a Victoria-class battleship launched in 1887 and scrapped in 1907.
