Homophora
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In linguistics, homophora is a reference to something in the cultual context or world view, and not otherwise present in the text. Homophora is a subcategory of exophora.
For example, in Did you see the President on the TV last night? it may be understood which president is referred to, simply through the location in time and space of the speaker or hearer, or through their cultural affiliation, and not through any other explanation in the text.
