House of Sorgo/Sorkočević

The Noble family of Sorgo or Sorkočević originated in Dubrovnik/Ragusa. A line of the same united name and coat of arms with the Nobili DE CERVA in Ragusa, after this had particularly been determined before by will and inheritance. Followers k. k. - I.) Nicolaus Lucas Noible de SORGO, married with Maria de RESTI, son of Johann, born 13 April 1709, married with mit Maria de GRADI, your sons were:
- (1) Nicolaus Maria (born 16 August 1759)
- (2) Sigismund Alois (born 24 December 1763), Which both ones 1 December 1817 have been recognized. was married later with Magdalena Gräfin POZZA von ZAGORIE, your sons were:
- (a) Marina Maria Antonia Aloisia, born 13 September 1795,
- (b) Theresia Gaetana Aloisia, born 24 May 1797,
- (c) Johann Hieronymus Alois Angelus, born 3 October 1799

- II.) Peter Maria de SORGO, married with Ursula de MENZE, son of Johann Blasius, born 8 May 1746, the old aristocracy was recognized for the Austrian Empire 1 December 1817, remarried with Maria de Bosdari, your sons were:

- (b) Blaisus Dominik, born 18 April 1797.
- III.) Nicolaus Vladislaus de SORGO, married with Helena, daugther of Matthäus Martolizza de ZAMAGNA, your sons were:
- (1) Vladislaus, born 15 December 1761, married with Nicola, daugther of Nicolaus de GOZZE,
- (2) Matthäus Balthasar, born 6 January 1763, married with Magdalena, daugther of Nicolaus Johannes de BONA, and
- (3) Marinus Paschalis, born 17 May 1767, married with Helena,daugther of Melchiors de GOZZE,
the old aristocracy was recognized for the Austrian Empire 1 November 1817.

- (b) Vladislaus Iganz, born 13.12.1795,
- (c) Lucas Xaver, born 13.7.1797,
- (d) Johann Franz Maria, born 25.3.1799,
- (e) Marinus Dominik Franz, born 28.2.1804 und
- (f) Paula, born 4.9.1807.
- Marinus (3) have three children:
- (a) Nicolaus Anton, born 3.5.1803,
- (b) Melchior, born 1.4.1808 und
- (c) Anton, born 20.7.1810.
- IV.) Lucas Diego and Peter, sons of Franzens, recognized the old aristocracy 10.11.1817.
- V.) Anna, daugther of Franz Hieronymus de BONA, widow of Peters de SORGO, son of Marinos, in addition to the son of Marino Franz Hieronymus, born 22.2.1802, as well Marinus, Son of Anton de SORGO, 1.11.1817 recognized the old aristocracy.

Besides, following descent is still known: Anton de SORGO, born 5 July 1727, married with Lucia de BONA whose father Marius Orsatus was married to Maria, daughter of Lucas Gunii de SORGO. His son of Lucas Didacu Franz, born 12 November1776, married with Nicolade GOZZE, Melchiors daughter, was a father of Anton Johann who was born on 30 August 1812. From the Nobili SORGO CERVA. Peter Ignaz died in Ragusa which without descendant, Graz 10/11/1817 k. k. Aristocracy acknowledgment get as a Nobile.
[edit] Biography of famous members
- Antun Sorkočević (Compte de Sorgo, 1775-1841), a good friend of Marko Bruerovic, was the last ambassador of his native Republic of Ragusa in France, where he spent 35 years. Author of numerous publications, he became member of Académie Celtique (1806), Société des Antiquaries (1828). Among other books he published "Mémoire sur la langue et les moeurs des peuples slaves", "Fragments sur l'histoire et la littérature de la République de Raguse et sur la langue slave", translated Ivan Gundulić'es Osman (Osman, poéme illyrien en vingt chants) in 1838.
- Luka Sorkočević (1734-1789), whose beautiful symphonies are performed throughout the world, lived in Dubrovnik (you are just listening to his Andante). His two sisters were the first female composers in Croatia.
- Nikola Sorkočević from Dubrovnik wrote an important book about navigation, shipbuilding, and tides, published in 1574.
