Ice pack therapy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ice pack therapy (also called cryotherapy) is a treatment of cold temperatures to an injured area of the body. An ice pack is a plastic bag filled with crushed or cubed ice, refrigerant gel, or even frozen vegetables. This pack is placed over an injured area and is intended to absorb heat of a closed traumatic or edematous injury. It is commonly used to alleviate the pain of minor injuries.
It is important that the therapy isn't in place too long, usually not to exceed 20 minutes, and is better utilized using a cloth barrier between the bag and skin.
