Inchworm (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Inchworm", also known as "The Inch Worm", is a song originally performed by Danny Kaye in the 1952 film Hans Christian Andersen. It was written by Frank Loesser.
The song has become a popular children's song and is best known for it's arithmetic-based chorus:
- Two and two are four
- Four and four are eight
- Eight and eight are sixteen
- Sixteen and sixteen are thirty-two
A second verse is then sung in tandem with the first:
- Inch Worm, Inch Worm
- Crawling on my windows sill
- Inch Worm, Inch Worm
- Counting out the numbers still.
Two groups, half singing the first verse and half the second, cycle through both (one group starts with the first, the other the second).
It has been covered by many artists including Anne Murray, Kenny Loggins, John Lithgow and Doris Day, and has been performed in skits on Jim Henson's Sesame Street and The Muppet Show.
