Infinity Tower is a skyscraper under construction by Palma Real Estate in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Construction of the 330 metre (1,083 ft) building began in February 2006 and when completed in 2009, it will have 80 Stories and be the world's tallest high rise buiding with a twist of 90˚. The current version of the tower under construction beat out a taller, dark, 372 m, 93 floor Infinity Tower that was never built.
The tower will twist exactly like the Turning Torso in Malmö, Sweden however will be the tallest to do so. Each floor is rotated by 1.2˚ to achieve the full 90˚ spiral, creating the shape of a helix.
The Project of the property development company CAYAN architects were Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and will be located in the Dubai Marina.
The Tower will have residential apartments, conference rooms, tennis courts, pools, a state of the art gymnasium, a nursery and a spa.
[edit] Flooding of the construction site
The status of the tower is currently on hold, since the foundation site of the tower was flooded when the wall that held back the Dubai Marina was breached. The incident happened as the workers were assisting the project owners and the piling contractor with the foundation works on site 20 meters below ground level.
The supervision team noticed a slight movement and cracks in the diaphragm wall adjacent to the Dubai Marina and alerted the management who ordered an immediate evacuation of the site. The diaphragm wall collapsed and crumbled within 2 minutes from being noticed as the workers were scrambling over safety ladders up to the ground level. The whole site was totally flooded within 4 minutes. The construction of the tower will continue to be suspended until the site can be totally dewatered.
