Intergender
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An intergender (IG) person is someone who defines themselves as in between or beyond the traditional genders or simply refuses to define their gender at all. Intergender is one of many words that people who do not identify simply as either men or women may use to describe their gender identity.
"Intergender" was originally used simply to mean "incorporating both men and women," as in "intergender softball team." Etymologically, the word comes from the Latin "inter-" (between or among), and modern English "gender" (itself from the Old French "gendre," meaning kind).
Some people associate the term "intergender" in its usage as a gender identity with the term intersex. Some intersex people also identify as intergender, but many do not.
