[edit] Just a coincidence?
Is it really just a coincidence that Islamorada not only has the word Islam in it but means "Islam is over there" in Túrkçe?
- Yes. "Islamorada" means Purple Island in Spanish. When the early Spanish explorers came they saw a beach full of those plants similar to sea oats (I forget the exact name) that appear purple, especially after a rain. Certain parts of the Everglades are filled with them and it really looks purple at certain times of the year (I think Spring).
