[edit] Dishwalla
J.R. Richards has made a lasting mark on the landscape of popular music, with a voice that seems to shatter the stratosphere. He’s the singer/songwriter of Dishwalla, the enduring alt-rock band that released five definitive records over 13 years. During that time, the five guys from Santa Barbara saw album sales in the millions, a chart-topping single that earned the Billboard award for ‘Rock Song of the Year,’ a growing network of faithful fans and a travelogue dotted by thousands of performances all over the globe.
So while Dishwalla takes a much-needed break, J.R. is eager to make an entirely different mark on the music scene: his very own. He’s hard at work on a solo album, and is ready to share his personal sound with the world for the first time. “I do love my brothers in Dishwalla," J.R. says, "but I’ve been enjoying writing a record entirely for myself.”
[edit] Solo Album
J.R. recently starred as Jesus of Nazareth in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ co-produced an album for the band Super Swamper, and has been warming up some new material for fans at recent performances throughout the U.S. “Its been a first for me," he explains, "playing shows without a band. But I’m having a good time playing the songs stripped down and will be doing more - with more new songs - in the near future.” J.R. will be playing live shows around the country as he continues to make progress on his solo album. The stage is finally set, and if the past is any indication of things to come, you won’t want to miss what’s next.
