Jabol (pron. "yabol") is a slang name for a large family of cheap Polish wines, very popular among lower-income residents and teenagers as well as bums all across the country. These alcoholic drinks, based on spirits, do not have much in common with real wines and to a wine connoisseur they taste like a criss-cross of poor quality cordial liquors and vodka.

Jabols (also known under several other nicknames, like “Kwiat Jabłoni - Apple’s Flower”, “Mózgojeb - Brainfucker” or "Chateau de Jabol, vintage: last Tuesday" ) come in various names and fruit flavors, yet there are three things all these beverages have in common - its price (very cheap), quality (very poor) and relatively high volume of alcohol (around 18%).

Although those quasi-wines come in various flavours, it is important to mention that all of them are being made from Apples, industrial quality(worst), with average market purchase price: 0.02$ per kilo . Moreover, the producers often cheat, when estimating volume of alcohol, because of marketing purposes. It is said that whole Polish sugar industry is still functioning, because of earlier mentioned customers preference - they've got used to drink sweet drinks.

Produced by several companies, for many years they have been enjoyed by generations of Polish drinkers. They are especially popular in Polish Punk culture. Rumor has it that some time ago some jabols contained sulphuric acid, which gave them additional kick. Doctors warn that excessive drinking of them may cause serious damage to one’s stomach, including ulcers and cirrhosis.

It is the only wine that comes with sell by date marked on the label.
