Jan Birkelund

Jan Birkelund (November 10, 1950 — February 28, 1983) was a Norwegian footballer. A tall and strong central defender, on club level he played for Skeid and Lillestrøm. In addition, he was capped 33 times for Norway.
Birkelund became cup champion with Skeid in 1974, and won "The Double" with Lillestrøm in 1977. Lifting the cup trophy in 1978 as well, the cup final turned out to be his last match. After the season he retired because doctors had discovered a heart disease, which led to his death four years later.
