If you are going to be adding Category:People with craters of the Moon named after them to articles such as Vojtěch Šafařík, shouldn't you also make sure that the article to which the category is being added has a reference to the article such as, in this case, Šafařík (crater)? And conversely, that "Šafařík (crater)" has some reference to "Vojtěch Šafařík"? Gene Nygaard 22:43, 9 September 2006 (UTC).

I can see no reason, why you decided to make troubles or to insult other people here. Please stop. I would appreciate, if you decided to cooperate on writing this encyclopaedia instead.

- you write your messages in English, so that everybody can understand

- you change your ways of expression

I am glad you like it. The complete list of existing templates of this kind can be found at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia#Wikipedia Foreign Language user pages. First of all, I have nothing against people who emigrated from their country. Many of them had good reasons which I respect. I voted for the deletion of the stub on Ivan Špaček simply because he does not seem notable to me. You wrote that he is a "founder of several literary movements". Well, why does no library give any information about him? Not many people can bear such a title. You wrote that he founded Literary Cubism. However, he is not old enough so that his cubistic work (if it exists) could precede the works by Guillaume Apollinaire or Gertrude Stein.

You can speak English very well and therefore I do not understand why you adressed me your vulgar insults in Czech language (despite the fact that our previous discussions used to be in English). Despite the fact that you removed it later, I decided to put it back here, so that at least people who understand Czech could see it. Hi, I guess that's a great idea adding the IPA pronunciation to Czech places. Might I suggest adding syllable divisions as well? They may be obvious for a Czech speaker but not so much for a foreigner. – Caroig 20:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I have been thinking about it as well, but I have only rarely seen it at Wikipedia. I think it may not be so necessary, as in IPA one vowel usually means one syllable, and exceptions are marked with non-syllable (such as [ˈolomoʊ̯ts]) and syllable marks (such as [ˈkr̩nof]). I also think that sometimes it would make the transcriptions unnecessarily long, for example [ˈva.laʃ.skɛ: ˈmɛ.zɪ.r̝i:.tʃi:] Jan.Kamenicek 20:57, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I thought I could read IPA pretty well yet I didn't know about these special tags, thanks. I head those diphtongs or syllables without vowels in mind, this solves the matter. – Caroig 21:14, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

If you listen to the audio file pronunciation of Leoš Janáček's name, the accent is not where you have moved it to. I believe that the accent should go on the second syllable of the surname. If you are sure that this is incorrect then please replace/remove the audio files as well. Thanks. Lesnail 15:52, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I have listened to the file, but it seems to me that the stress is on the first syllable. The impression of a stress on the second syllable may be due to its length. "Janáček" is a Czech surname and the rule says that the stress is always on the first syllable. Jan.Kamenicek 19:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pilsen Region/Plzeň Region

Hi, I've noticed you replaced Pilsen Region with Plzeň Region in the Město Touškov article. Recently, I've either created and extended all articles on administrative units within the Pilsen Region, providing some basic data and location maps. I tried to do that in as much consistent way as possible. Thus I used everywhere Pilsen Region though I'm aware the article is currently named Plzeň Region. I chose this approach as it seems illogical and confusing to anyone not familiar with the Plzeň/Pilsen names, which is most readers who aren't from the Czech Republic, to use Pilsen someplace and Plzeň someplace else. The article on Pilsen is currently under the "Pilsen" name and as the article is much more comprehensive than the Pilsen Region article I think the name Pilsen Region should be used preferably. I didn't want to change the name of that article because there are a lot of users whose only agenda seems to be fighting petty and silly edit/naming wars.

Both names Plzeň and Pilsen have their relevancy on Wikipedia. In my view Pilsen is better as it is easy to pronounce and use for English speaker and it is a valid English name for this city. I put a lot of effort into my edits being consistent. I just don't understand why you're changing the name someplace while leaving it untouched elsewhere. So if you think the name Plzeň Region is better, that's OK, but please be consistent and change it everywhere where both the region or the town are concerned. It's extremely confusing for everyone when there's Plzeň Region and Pilsen as its capital in one sentence. As most towns and administrative units use the Pilsen form, I suggest leaving it as it is. – Caroig (talk) 19:02, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

The reason why I changed it was the name of the Wikipedia article on Plzeň Region and the fact that, while there are both names of Plzeň and Pilsen used in English, the region is usually referred to as the Plzeň (not Pilsen) Region.

Generally, I have no problem with the name Pilsen. When there was voting on the Plzeň talk page some time ago, I voted for renaming it to Pilsen. However, it is also true that later, after I read arguments that this originally German version of the city's name currently seems to have been abandoned by English writing media, I changed my mind, but the voting was closed before I decided to change my vote.

You are right about my inconsistency. Sometimes I have noticed which version was used and changed it when editing the article, some other times I have not. I will will try to be more consistent.

I do not consider this issue crucial either. I also understand your arguments, so if you feel happier about Pilsen, I can respect it. Jan.Kamenicek 20:51, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

It's not about me being happy with either Pilsen or Plzeň, it's about not confusing the readers. As I wrote before I'm aware the article's currently named Plzeň Region but when there's a sentence saying Pilsen is the capital of the region they both should be named the same way, otherwise the readers don't see the connection between the region's name and its capital.

As of the origin of the name Pilsen, it's obviously German, i.e. a Germanic language, so it's only logical English, another Germanic language, would borrow the name from German, not Czech. I don't think the name Pilsen has been abondoned by English speakers (personal observation) but it's true the media rather avoid it, the reason not being linguistic but rather political over-correctness.

My point was just incosistency within one article. I agree it's nothing substantial; I always try to make my post clear-cut from a general reader's view, a Wikipedia policy many Czech editors, I'm afraid, fail to observe. – Caroig (talk) 19:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
