Jerusalem Malha Train Station

The Jerusalem Malha Train Station is the main Israel Railways station in Jerusalem, Israel. The station is located in the southern Jerusalem Manahat neighborhood, also known as Malha, near the Jerusalem Shopping Mall and Teddy Stadium, the home field of the Betar Jerusalem FC soccer team. Outside the station is an area for bus stops of lines serving the station and a bus depot where buses are stored and refueled. The entrance to the station is on ground level and there are steps and escalators going in to the station. There is a ticket counter and an automatic ticket machine as well as bathrooms. Then access the platforms through another escalator to board the trains.
Jerusalem Malha is the terminus of the line. The other Jerusalem station is the Biblical Zoo, with limited stops. Jerusalem Malha was opened for the first time on April 9, 2005, when the historic Tel Aviv-Jerusalem line was restored after being out of service for six years. The line was in bad shape and needed serious upgrades, including the laying of new tracks. Jerusalem Malha replaced the historic Khan Station in central Jerusalem which was not restored due to the objections of area residents over train noise in their backyards. In 2009, there will be a new high speed train line from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem which will terminate at a new underground station under construction beneath the Jerusalem Central Bus Station. There are plans to connect the line from the Jerusalem Central Bus Station to Jerusalem Malha.
Trains from Jerusalem travel westbound to Bet Shemesh, Ramla, Lod, Tel Aviv, Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva, Rosh Ha'ayin, and Kfar Saba with connecting service to other destinations in Lod and Tel Aviv.
As of February 5, 2006, intercity bus routes to Gush Etzion and the Hebron area now stop at the new bus depot at the Jerusalem Malha Train Station on their way from the Jerusalem Central Bus Station to their destination via Begin Boulevard. This route avoids downtown traffic and is faster, but inconvenient for people who work downtown. when they buying inter-city tickets, passengers can now get a reduced-price transfer to a city bus, to continue their trip to other parts of the city.
