[edit] Edit summary

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thanks, and happy editing.

Skinnyweed 15:20, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll ask the same question. What's the point of adding that to people's user pages without saying what article you're referring to? Joffeloff 15:29, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
This one. Because of the sheer amount of edit summary tags I'm adding, adding any more information would take lots more time. Skinnyweed 15:41, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
"sheer amount", do wonder why you are adding so very many. Took a look and you have added a LOT of these tags to peoples' talk pages. Why?! It is not essential compulsary policy that people have to follow, merely a "good idea". So sometimes I'll do that, and sometimes I won't... Mathmo 11:58, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Are you an editor of Wikipedia? If so, can you please lock the Blackwater page from editing? My name continues to appear there as a founder (Jamie Smith) of Blackwater Security and is followed by "...left under allegations of resume fraud..." This is not true and is slanderous and libel. I have gone in and deleted my name and the material three times but it continues to be replaced. Please remove it and lock it to protect against this bias. Thank you.

This, this, this, and this. It's just a short listing of the hoops that are having to be jumped though for Operational Names in articles. Regards, ΣcoPhreek Is UselessNostalgia 17:07, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

There's a big difference between using the operation names as article names and mentioning that this is what the U.S. called the operations. Joffeloff 17:09, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Again, I agree. However, the user starting all this is also removing them from articles, stating that they are propaganda. They are justifying that based on the moving of Articles from the operational name to the Non-operational name. ΣcoPhreek Is UselessNostalgia 17:15, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I have seen atleast one instance where the operational name was used for the article treating the involvement of the party using the operational name, and an article named 'war/conflict/etc in Wherever' as an umbrella article for the involvement of all sides. Isn't that perfectly neutral and good? I don't see the big deal. Joffeloff 17:18, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
One would think it was, but just for an example in the article we started in [1] this is going on in dozens of articles by the same person, and no one is willing to stop them (there is even an admin supporting), we do have an ArbCom case going but I'm not sure what will happen to that. [edit] Stateless people

I see you have readded [2] to Basque people the Category:Stateless people. I was amazed at it the first time too. Why do basque people fall into the stateless people? They do have a legal nationality: they're Spanish. They don't form an state, as Spain is not a federal country, but they are a Autonomous community. Can you explain? Platonides 21:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

They do not have their own nation state even though they belong to a federal state. In this way various ethnic groups like the native americans, native australians and new zealanders can be added to that category aswell.
I'm not suggesting that they're being 'oppressed' or any BS like that, but you can't say that they don't have their own nation state of a Basque character. --Joffeloff 21:57, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Also, the category originally pertained to stateless individuals but has since been used very often to describe groups who don't have their own nation-state. I understand the confusion, because there is a current debate over what that category should represent. --Joffeloff 21:59, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Iran Iraq War

I don't see what is it that you are mad about, i reverted CJK's several edits, i am sorry if i accidently reverted your edit among them. --Spahbod 19:15, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV

If an article overly focuses on minor issues from weak sources, that is POV and should be removed. Just wanted to let you know since you were confused on the issue. 75.3.52.176 03:26, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Nansenoslo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nansenoslo.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

[edit] Navy templates

Are you wanting to know about navy or ship templates? I have only worked with ships and classes, not the navy pages really, so I don't know about templates used on those pages. If you want info on the ship templates I've made, let me know which kind you are working with and I'll help out. Josh 03:17, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I was thinking about the seemingly simple templates with a navy ensign and the Navy's name, like:
The 'source' for this template reads navy|flagnavy|USA. Trying to simply change this to navy|flagnavy|ISR or something else doesn't work out of the box, and (to me atleast) there is no telltale way to do this, and no guide anywhere.
I'm sorry for bothering you if I'm speaking to the wrong person, but an overweight of the templates were created by you so I figured you'd be the one to ask. --Joffeloff 03:34, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Ah yes, these... I built them on the model of the country referencing templates that are used (Flag of United States United States; Flag of Israel Israel; etc.) so I do agree there is a bit of depth to them that it took my a while to figure out, but when I create a new one I basically follow the following procedure:
  • Create the template file, I'll create Template:Navy ISR for the example.
  • Template:Navy ISR should read {{navy|flagnavy|ISR}}.
  • Preview Template:Navy ISR and you will see three redlink templates, though two links are to the same template.
  • Create Template:Navy flag alias ISR to read Naval Ensign of Israel.svg, which is the image name of their naval ensign.
  • Create Template:Navy alias ISR to read Israeli Sea Corps, which is the official name and the name of the article to reference.
  • Save Template:Navy ISR and you will see it look as intended: Flag of Israeli Sea Corps Israeli Sea Corps
Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be more than willing to help out. Like I said, I tried to base it on the country flag templates, but they are slightly different.Josh 00:25, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Many thanks! I think I've got the hang of it now. --Joffeloff 00:37, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Vardskip framan stor.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Vardskip framan stor.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:25, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits

Are all marked as minor. Review Help:Minor edit if you get the chance. You have added siginificant discussion to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shawn Hornbeck as a minor edit, however, the edit was not minor. Regards, Navou banter 17:41, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a habit stemming from noobie days when I only dared correcting spelling errors. I'll try to think about that box before ticking it. :) --Joffeloff 17:43, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks bud... minor edits don't show up in my watch list (unless I set them too) and I want to know if discussion is added... BTW its beginning to look like I might have made a mistake nominating that page, we'll see after a few hours. Happy editing. Regards, Navou banter 17:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for catching that

Thanks for catching that obvious error in the History of gays in the Holocaust article. I am in charge of the featured articles at the LGBT portal, and wanted to use that article this week, but it didn't have a lead. I was typing quickly, and have a bad case of the flu, so that mistake went right by me in proofreading. It's fixed, now. Thanks again. Jeffpw 03:02, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

That's the one thing that made me notice it, such a strange error making it onto a portal. --Joffeloff 03:06, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Solstad-logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Solstad-logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Road safety camera

I have moved the article back to Road safety camera which is a simpler and descriptive title. If you are concerned over NPOV issues then please set up a move request at WP:RM so that there can be a full discussion. Your suggested title of 'Road rule enforcement camera' is not logical - the cameras detect not enforce and there is no such legal instrument as a 'road rule. If you want a new title then you might wish to consider 'Road offences detection camera' which, though clumsy, at least has the virtue of accuracy. BlueValour 17:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Having thought about things I have a new suggestion - 'Vehicle detection camera' which I quite like - if it finds favour with you I shall put it forward at WP:RM. BlueValour 17:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Sure, anything but 'road safety camera' as a very large minority feels these cameras do anything but contribute to road safety. --Joffeloff 18:47, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi, please share your views at Talk:Road safety camera#Requested move. BlueValour 22:19, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
