John C. J. Taylor

John C. J. Taylor is a musician, graphics designer, and cartoonist from Australia. He first played music in high school, his band "Soap" (with Tony Martin-Jones on guitar and Warren Bell on drums) being awarded headline position in the Chatswood High School - Willoughby Shire Centenary Celebration Concert. Later bands included Llama (1970-71), Hot Rocket (1972 - 73) and Uncle Bob's Band (1973 - 1976).
John produced many street posters for Uncle Bob's Band that placed him among the recognised Street Artists of the day including Chips Macinolty from the Sydney University 'Tin Sheds' who gave John technical assistance producing photo-stencils for some of his posters.
Uncle Bob's Band moved to Melbourne and John established himself as a rock & roll artist when the band broke up in 1976. He produced art for the Tiger Room which later transformed into the Tiger Lounge and a comic strip "Gigs Of Our Lives" for the TAGG Gig Guide in Melbourne and Sydney. He also produced art for many Melbourne venues, radio stations, bands, record covers and concerts including Bananas, Hearts, 3RRR Radio Station, Phil Manning, Suicide Records, RMIT Storey Hall, The Astor and others.
John was also in bands including Phones (1977 - 78), Little Heroes (1979 - 82) and Routinos (1982) before concentrating on his illustration work. While with (The) Little Heroes he produced the art for their debut album (Little Heroes) and all their posters and handbills including one poster that was included in a R&R Nostalgia Exhibition at the Arts centre that featured Skyhooks memorabilia amongst others.
In 1985 John completed a Post Graduate Animation Course at the Swinburne Film & Television School, winning numerous awards for his student film: "The Huge Adventures of Trevor, a Cat" including an AFI Best Animated Film Award (1986). He went on to produce many Documentary Films & Videos including the award winning "You're Fired" (fire safety) and "Here's Your Bike, Ed" (bike education) both of which ATOM Awards and one AWGIE Scriptwriting Award.
