José Ozámiz

José Ozámiz Fortich (May 5, 1898 - 1944) was a Filipino politician from Mindanao. He served as Misamis Occidental's first provincial governor, being elected in 1932. Later, he also served as a congressional representative. He was a delegate to the 1935 Constitutional Convention that resulted in the creation of the 1935 Constitution for the Philippine Commonwealth Government.
In 1940 he was elected to the Philippine Senate.
He was beheaded by the Japanese during their occupation of the Philippines during World War II for his involvement in the Resistance Movement. The city of Ozamiz (which used to be called Misamis) in the province of Misamis Occidental was posthumously named in his honor.
