Julie Pearl Postigo, better known by her screen name Julie Vega (May 21, 1968 – May 6, 1985), was a well-loved Filipino movie and television actress. Her sudden death from pneumonia at the age of 16 triggered a massive outpouring of nationwide grief that is still remembered more than two decades later.
Vega began her career at the age of three as a television commercial model of a hotdog brand. Her first major lead role was in the 1978 film Mga Mata ni Angelita, but unqualified success and stardom came the following year at age eleven when she was cast as the title character in the GMA 7 television soap opera Anna Liza. Her sensitive, sad-sack and frequently oppressed character drew the sympathy and affection of the Filipino viewing public. The success of Anna Liza made Julie Vega a television rival of Janice de Belen, a child star also successful of television drama Flor de Luna. By that period, the two dramas became the main television rivalry. Though showbiz rivals, Julie and Janice are real life buddies.
Vega also maintained an active film career during her short life, starring in such films as Mga Basang Sisiw, Durugin Si Totoy Bato (with Fernando Poe, Jr.), Mother Dear, and Daddy's Little Darlings (with Dolphy). At the time of her death, she was scheduled to join the regular cast of the noontime variety show Student Canteen.
