[edit] Editing the page

I think people should be allowed to write about how he is gay.

[edit] Gay Life

I think that the gay life section is basically saying what personal life does I dont think we need or maybe we should merge it.

I agree. I don't get into editting wikipedia article, but the organization in this one caught my eye. The things in the love life section is redundant of the personal life section. Also under personal life there are references to him working on the simpsons, which shouldn't be in that section any ways. This is the first wikipedia article that has ever caught my eye as needing editting. Hope someone dedicated to this article can take care of it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.34.34.192 (talk • contribs).

I would do so myself, but I'm busier on other things. I would encourage you to get a user account and be proactive and make the changes. The page had to be semiprotected because 95% of the IP edits were either vandalism or changing the figures without using sources - and because the vandalism was extremely frequent. -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 04:02, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Why is it omitted that he and Janet Jackson also were a couple? It just seems weird that all his other girlfriends are talked about except her. Maybe a little racial bias in the press, as usual? Day24.19.60.25 02:44, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wigger?

Someone might want to remove that under the "See Also" part. It looks like someone defaced the article.

[edit] Gay icon

Justin IS a gay icon. He has been featured in craploads of gay magazines and has been a gay fave for years.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,116890,00.html

What I don't understand is the reason for including the following text under Rumors:
"In a VH1 special during the summer of 2005, it was suggested that Timberlake, along with other musicians, market themselves to a homosexual audience to increase sales."
So, there's a rumor that a VH1 special during the summer of '05 suggested that he market himself to gay men? Or, is the rumor that he plans to heed that advice? Further, why is this particularly noteworthy? It is by no means unheard of for a popstar to market themselves to a particular audience, nor is it unheard of for a popstar to market themselves to the increasingly visible gay male audience. I, for one, would encourage Timberlake to position himself to market to everyone and maybe even to focus some specific time/energy/money on gay (typically young) men. But that doesn't mean I think we need to single out a comment made on VH1 for this article. Comments? Lekoman 02:14, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

If Timberlake is a gay icon, his homophobic remarks in the New Yorker Magazine remarks about Taylor Hicks would indicate why he doesn't market himself to gays!

From JustinTimberlake/J.T:

Justin Timberlake was born January 31, 1981. His career started after he appeared on Star Search while he was a cast-member on the 1980's version of the Mickey Mouse Club variety show. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Until recently has in a group called N'sync. And currently been in a relationship with them. With of help of justin's friend and mother they were able to play the prank real good. He is currently on tour now with Christina Aguilera and the tour is called "Justified" and "Stripped."

Some of this can be put into the article on Justin Timberlake, but it needs proofread. -- goatasaur

"Near the end of 2002, Justin Timberlake lost his home because Timberlake did not pay his taxes to the IRS."

Can anyone substantiate this? A quick Yahoo! search reveals no reference to IRS troubles. One of the first episodes of MTV's "Punk'd" did involve a sham seizure of Timberlake's property, however, this was not an acutal seizure. Other than "Punk'd," does anyone have any evidence of Justin having problems with the IRS?Essjay 03:29, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

He was the first star to get Punk'd by Ashton Kutcher. About the Timberlake lost his home, it was just a joke that was aired on Punk'd.

Since this particular bit of trivia keeps finding its way back into the article, I have cleaned up the reference and made it clear that it was part of a television stunt. Essjay 21:36, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

I thought that Timberlake lost his home by Ashton Kutcher.

No, he did not. It was a stunt for Kutcher's television show. It was not real, Timberlake did not lose his home, he did not owe back taxes, it was only a prank for television. Essjay 23:48, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] In August, 2005...

Justin Timberlake may have done several things in August, 2005, but signing some kid from Ohio to a record contract doesn't appear to be one of them. Even if it were true, this is hardly worthy of mention in the article for Justin Timberlake. Judging from VfD on 24 August, some kid is trying to get their name in lights... the lights of computer screens, that is. -- SwissCelt 03:36, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fraternal Twin

Justin has a twin? OmegaWikipedia 10:03, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Justin has a twin sister Laura Catherine who died shortly after birth. He has an angel tattoo on his back in honor of both his sister and his mother.

[edit] Justin Timberlake did not have a twin sister.

Laura Katherine Timberlake was Justin's stepsister. I don't have a direct link, but this appeared in the online archives of the Memphis Commerical Appeal ([1]), from the week of May, 13, 1997:

"LAURA KATHERINE TIMBERLAKE, newborn daughter of Randy and Lisa Timberlake of Millington, died Tuesday at Methodist Hospital North of complications following birth. Private family graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Millington. Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington has charge. She also leaves a brother, Jonathan Timberlake, and a stepbrother, Justin Timberlake, both of Millington, and her grandparents, Charles and Bobbie Timberlake of Memphis, Mack Perry of Millington and Sue Perry of Harrisburg, Ark."

[edit] Whistle register

This seems interesting, I've never heard Justin sing that high. Which song(s) does he access the register?

[edit] Whistle register me no think so

I have never heard of a male voice singing in the whistle register and would highly doubt that Timberlake could even if it were possible. I think I also saw somewhere it said he was a countertenor - this is also false: he is a tenor that uses falsetto a lot, quite different from a countertenor as anyone who has heard a countertenor sing will tell you. --Nipoc 08:35, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just In Time (album)

Who made that redirect to this article? Considering the numerous amount of album articles that are floating around on Wikipedia as listed as upcoming releases and whatnot it seems kind of counterproductive to redirect his next album into his main article. 63.233.88.51 10:54, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] King of Pop

Uh... He's only released one album. I don't think that just because he attempted to mimic Michael Jackson, makes him the king of pop music.

There's no king of pop--2hot4u2handle 13:44, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
He was named the new king of pop by some magazine. Which is odd to me, because he seems intent on being the next MJJ. Antares33712 22:31, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Isn't Usher the king of Pop?

It's hardly Wikipedia's place to dub anyone anything. If we must include this, find the magazine, and phrase it something like: "Such-and-such magazine, in date, dubbed Timberlake the new King of Pop, supplanting Michael Jackson." That way we're citing our source, we're giving supporting details, and we're also not just deciding to claim it as fact because a magazine said so. Lekoman 06:01, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

I've redirected "Prince of Pop" to him, he's been called this many times previously. MJ even stated at a concert which Justin performed at. I'll find citations later - Leethal And I have changed it back to Andy Warhol as this is the name Google returns when you type in Prince of Pop.202.169.219.229 05:57, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Usher is not so much a Pop musician, though he WAS dubbed the "Godson of Soul" by James Brown. He is and R&B musician.

He is not the King of Pop or the Prince of Pop any pages stating this should be removed.

[edit] He also had a lead role in the Matrix skit from 2003 MTV Music Awards

It was included as a bonus material on the Matrix: Reloaded DVD. Jon 21:58, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article using us

Looks like this little newsbit[2] copied our "Personal life" section to a dot (the last paragraph of that article). I feel proud Mad Jack 17:13, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] He uses drugs!

What a twit. I wonder if he thinks this makes him cool? I had minor respect/jealousy for his abilities to get the girls swooning but i must say I just think he's a tit now.--I'll bring the food 04:27, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cameron Diaz

We need to state when they started dating. Does anyone know? Lil Flip246 15:34, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I heard it was in June 2003.

[edit] Next Single Chop Me Up?

I heard the song "Chop Me Up" at my local radio station it's the song with three six mafia and Justin. Is this his next single?

No, It isnt. Not yet atleast..My love feat. TI is his new single. The video is expected any day now.

[edit] came out of the closet?

"On August 29, 2002, after months of recording the album, he came out of the closet telling the world he was gay and then later that day Timberlake gave a much-hyped performace at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, where he premiered his first single, "Like I Love You", a sparse interesting dance track produced by The Neptunes."

if he came out of the closet, why isn't he dating another guy? or is he bi? or is this just incorrect?

What the heck?

This is fake. Copied from this: http://www.wbwb.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=88&Itemid=66 69.223.134.102 18:32, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Songwriter?

On his albums, he's credited with writing credits, but there's nothing about that on the page.. --Hector 23:20, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent edits

There have been a plethora of recent edits on this page, including the changing of facts (e.g., Justin's hometown), but all without documenting sources. This is very suspicious, especially considering the fact that this page has repeatedly been hit by vandalism since his "coming out". I am going to undo them, as best as I can; I hope this doesn't create a problem. Please feel free to put the new figures back, but please document your sources. If you have a problem, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. --Patstuart 03:19, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Debut Album

His debut album "Justified" never went 6xplat. in the USA..it just went 3xplatinum!!!!!!!!!!! -—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.224.18.24 (talk • contribs).

This may be true, but there has been a lot of vandalism to this article recently, changing facts around. If you could cite a source, it would be very helpful. -Patstuart 01:34, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sales figures, etc.

If anyone could get a reliable source on these; people are changing the figures all the time, but I don't know which ones to believe, so they can't be reverted. Thanks. -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 18:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I noticed that lots of chart positions in Germany are posted way lower than they actually were. "Cry me a river" for example reached No. 2 over here and turned out to be a very successful single; Wikipedia lists it at No.13 as its peak position. And how come "Rock your body" is listed at having had its peak at No.25? It even debuted in the Top Ten, staying there for months and going up as far as No.2.

Billboard says futuresex is 2xplatinum by 29 Dec 2006

[edit] Please add some better external links

I have removed the hidden warning about links to fansites etc because WP:EL absolutely does NOT ban them. They are nearly always the best links on pop culture topics and this article needs some. It is just a matter of being selective, that is all. But I'm not a JT fan so I can't do it myself. Golfcam 03:01, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Facts or just making it up????

When people like Ebp112002 come and edit the pages, it's really annoying when they have facts like justified is certified 7x platinum when actually it's 3x platinum or when in australia, "my love" has reached number one when in fact it hasn't been charted yet. It's annoying because we have to keep changing it back. Please if u are going to change the page plz do your research or just ask me because i'm the one who regulary changes the page. Cheers Steve

not to point figures but i feel its needed, gunitjt7 or sumthing like that is the one fabricating the album sales and its pretty annoying to fix it when they are clearly wrong and should realize it when we put our sources and for sum reason they cant site there sourceS? so basically stop cxhanging justifieds album sales to 5 million in the u.s and riaa certified 7x platinum cuz that is incorrect, its over 3 million(supposedly 3.5) in the u.s and therefore 3x platinum....also futuresex/lovesounds has not sold 5 million worldwide or 3 million in the u.s or is certified 5x platinum by the riaa.... are u f*ckin retarded! it has sold just over 3 million worldwide and almost 2 million in the u.s which is why it is certified by the riaa at 2x platinum - BA

[edit] 41 cds?

the page wrote here that he sold a "staggering forty-one copies worldwide". Can someone please correct this?

[edit] Justin Timberlake's love life

  • Justin has been romantically involved with:

[edit] Incorrect Chart Position

The article states that 'Cry My A River' peaked at #62 in the UK. This is incorrect - it peaked at #2.

[edit] error in statistics

the certification by the RIAA of JT's album is wrong... it has been exaggerated by more than 2 X... go check billboard.com to verify guys... he ain't such a good artist... 5X platinum for futuresex/lovesounds... in california alone maybe!

do change it! Where the hell did the RIAA on this page come from, his debut album Justified DID NOT go 7x Platinum, he wishes, it went 3x Platinum. Also, futuresex/lovesounds is 2x Platinum. You guys need to verify your sources, please use www.riaa.com then "searchable database", you can find the correct riaa cert. there. I am constantly correcting RIAA mistakes on wikipedia, just because you like the artist, it dosn't give the right to increase its supposed number sales figures.

[edit] Record of the Year for "Cry Me A River"

This is incorrect. Justin did not receive a Record of the Year Nomination in 2004 for "Cry Me A River." He received it for his collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas in "Where Is The Love?" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jclem26112 (talkcontribs) 21:48, 1 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Timberlake an The Knife ?

"Timberlake and Swedish electronic duo The Knife are planning to release a collaborative album in 2008. It has been stated that the album will be recorded inbetween stops during the European leg of Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveShow tour." Source? This is a joke, right? I can't find anything about anywhere else.

Yes, please add sources or delete this paragraph.

[edit] Fair use images

The page has several images tagged as fair use, but don't belong since there already is a free version used at the top of the page. All images except the top one and the album art in the discography should be removed, it seems. Mosmof 13:39, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Knife collaboration - source?

The article says:

"Timberlake and Swedish electronic duo The Knife are planning to release a collaborative album in 2008. It has been stated that the album will be recorded inbetween stops during the European leg of Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveShow tour."

I have not been able to confirm this anywhere - I can only find Google hits, where people are wondering if what they read in this article is true! It seems to me, that this is a rumour started here on Wikipedia.

Does anyone have a source for this claim?

If not, the section should be deleted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Uffep (talk • contribs) 23:22, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

I can't find any source for this. (although it is well-written and has details about location...) Removing it from here for now... PlazzTT 23:38, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] POV Wording

i will be removing a few overtly POV phrases and words (such as calling Mr. Timberlake "sexy" in the introduction). While i do personally agree that he is sexy, this is not appropriate wording for an encyclopedia article.

Also, i would ask my fellow Wikipedians to please avoid using this discussion page as a venue to argue over and comment on Mr. Timberlake as a person. This talk page is only for discussing maintainence of the article in question.
