[edit] NFL Depth Charts
Hey,
I'm going to try to help you get the depth charts updated. I found some updated depth charts here: http://www.kffl.com/teamfind/nfl?dc=1 Most of the teams there should be up-to-date. I'm getting started on the AFC West division (except for the Chiefs, they haven't been updated on that webpage yet). When I'm done with that, I'll get to the other divisions.

[edit] Deletion of Current NFL Depth Charts link on NFL article
The NFL.com Depth Charts linked at the top of the NFL rosters templates are rarely updated. In fact, you can rarely find a website (other than ourlads.com, which is now a paid site) that has up-to-date depth charts. Since Wikipedia has updated roster lists, it should have updated Depth Charts. Otherwise the rosters and linked depth charts are not congruent. However, since the depth charts on my article are not complete I will leave it off the NFL article. But, as soon as the NFL Depth Charts article is complete and all the Depth Charts are updated I will put the link to it back on the NFL article. - JustVIKINGS (talk • contribs) 16:40, 13 March 2007 (UTC).
- Most teams depth charts aren't made available until training camp, when they evaluate the players.++aviper2k7++ 20:51, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

- That's true, but as I stated above, there are reputable paid websites (like ourlads.com) that keep a regularly updated depth chart for each team year round. I don't see why Wikipedia users shouldn't be able to access that type of info, which is why I will move forward with publishing it. - JustVIKINGS
[edit] Your depth charts
Hello, JustVIKINGS. I have some concerns about your recent spree of depth chart articles, and will presently delete them all per WP:CSD. However, I'd like to talk to you about them first. My major concern is that they all violate WP:NOT: article space is for encyclopaedia articles, it is not for hosting free versions of charts without any meaningful text, context or structure. I would suggest the following: you turn each depth chart into a template like the soccer roster templates widely in use (e.g. Template:Celtic F.C. Squad). You can then insert the template into the main article page for each team as required. Best wishes, Rockpocket 04:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Actually on further consideration, it would appear that articles for rosters appear to be accepted in the baseball (see Major League Baseball rosters). I'm still not convinced these do not violate our rules, but I'm not about to go on a unilateral deletion spree. However, I would ask you provide some textual introduction to provide context for the charts, categorize them and generally format them like an article rather than a standalone chart. (see WP:MoS). I've added some templates to the NFL Depth Charts as an example to give you some direction. Rockpocket 05:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

- I think I can create some useful text for the NFL Depth Charts article to make it comparable to the Major League Baseball rosters article. However, I would agree that maybe the chart for each team should be a template. Is there an easy way to convert those to templates? - JustVIKINGS

- I'm not sure if they can simply be moved to template space, though probably not. However, there is nothing to stop you simply copying and pasting the content to a template. For example, Buffalo Bills Depth Chart could be moved to Template:Buffalo Bills depth chart and then inserted into the Buffalo Bills article (or any other article) by typing {{Buffalo Bills depth chart}} in the appropriate place. Help:Template provides some advice on how to make good templates. If you do choose to do this, remember to tag the old articles thatare redundant with {{Db-author}}, or else drop me an note and I can delete them all for you. Oh, and thanks for expanding the NFL Depth Charts article, its much better now. Rockpocket 17:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
