Kahil El'Zabar

Multi-instrumentalist (mainly percussion) and composer. Born in Chicago on November 11, 1953, Kahil El'Zabar joined the Association for Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and became its president. In the seventies, he formed musical groups such as the Ritual Trio and the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble with whom he still performs. Kahil El'Zabar played with Dizzy Gillespie, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Simon a.o. He ist regarded as one of the world's most renowned percussionists and composers between African roots and contemporary improvisatory Jazz.
