[edit] History
The members of Kahtmayan are Homayoun Majdzade on lead guitar, Ardavan Anzabipour on bass, Arash Moghaddam on drums and Ali Azhari on rhythm guitar . The band started in 2003 with Khaled Sanadzadeh as the drummer and Ali Khodadoust as the keyboardist. In 2004, Khaled left the band and went abroad. Ali Khodadoust, too, did not continue with Kahtmayan after that time. Kahtmayan claims to be the first metal band in Iran to do so. But some others claim the same thing as well. The band's first concert was in May 2003 and their second one was in December 2003/January 2004 both with the former members.
In July 2005, Kahtmayan released its first album, EXIR, by Ava Khorshid Company. With the release of Exir, Kahtmayan shifted their music towards a more thrash metal sound. Another album, Virtual Existence, is in progressive metal style and it is performed by guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. In instruction of this album, Kahtmayan has used some of melodic elements and various atmospheres (in harmonic point of view) and rhythms. Virtual Existence which involved 9 tracks was finished by Homayoon Majdzadeh on 2002. They failed to release it in Iran in 2006. In 2007, they released EXIR under Roadrunner Records.
[edit] The crisis
In August 2006 the band moved to Hollywood, California. Manager, Kayvon Roochi tried to find a record label to release 2 Kahtmayan's albums, but he got no respond from any record labels. After 8 months, they decided to release the first DVD & CD of Virtual Existence album by themselves in late 2006. After they saw the success of Virtual Existance, Taraneh Records signed with Kahtmayan. Shortly after the band signed with the label, Kayvoon Roochi started to argue with Taraneh because the label broke their promises on letting the band plan their own music videos, which may have Gothic themes to it. Kahtmayan was in a diabolical crisis since Vanik Vartanian had left and the band had gone to the USA without a drummer. Before they moved to the US, guitarist Ali Azhari suggested a friend Arash Moghaddam who lives in the US as the drummer, but Roochi rejected it since Moghaddam has a different drum set than the normal type. The band was very close to breaking up or going on a hiatus when Roochi finally gave in to Arash Moghaddam as the new drummer for the band but cancelled the contract with Avang and signed with Roadrunner records, Eventually EXIR was re-recorded and mainly produced by Alec Cartio with Ross Robinson giving a helping hand too.
[edit] Current Situation
Kahtmayan has recently revealed that Arash Moghaddam is the new drummer for the band after Vanik Vartanian moved to the California to set up a new band.
