Kavajava
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kavajava is a stimulating beverage made by combining coffee with a "tea" made from the steeped dried roots of the kava plant. Kava's scientific name is Piper methysticum. Traditionally, kava has been used by western Pacific cultures in social, religious and political ceremonies. By itself, kava has a mildly narcotic effect, invoking a sense of relaxed euphoria, clear-headedness, mild drowsiness and sociability. Combined with caffeinated coffee, kavajava provides mental and physical alertness, without the nervousness or tachycardia associated with caffeine. This is believed by some drinkers to be an ideal mental state in which to engage in lengthy, detailed conversation and intensive negotiation. While the suggested proportions of kava and coffee vary, the mixture is usually heavily sweetened to counter or mask the kava's strong bitter taste.
