[edit] Bonnets and Aprons
Fionna is the first of Kerri Bennett Williamson's novel series Bonnets and Aprons. It is a historical novel set in America during the westward expansion of the 1840s, and inspired by classic Victorian literature written from a woman's point of view—specifically the works of the Brontë sisters and pre-Victorian writers such as Jane Austen.
[edit] Plot Summary
Young Fionna dreams of a family of her own, but when her mother suddenly dies in childbirth she feels compelled to devote herself solely to her younger brothers and sisters. After their father takes a new wife, Fionna’s fervent hopes for the family’s happiness are crushed by the bitter reality of their stepmother’s jealously and their father’s indifference.
Resigned to the life of a spinster, and imagining herself a tired old maid, Fionna fears that her dedication and sacrifice have forever closed the door to her destiny with the one man she ever dared to dream of.
