[edit] Synopsis
Grim and nearly silent, the film is set in northern China in the 1970s and follows the difficult experiences of three siblings. When the characters actually do speak, they speak Standard Chinese with an almost incomprehensible Wu accent. Original runtime was over four hours, but was reduced to 144 minutes for theatrical release.
