La Crosse State Normal School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
La Crosse Normal School opened its doors in 1909 as one of the nine teacher preparation schools established in the state of Wisconsin between 1866 and 1916. It then became the La Crosse State Teachers College in 1927. Like many institutions, the La Crosse State Teachers College struggled through serious declines in enrollment and funding during the Great Depression and both World Wars. The college survived these bleak years to realize a post-war boom in enrollment, and gained university status in 1964. It is now known as the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
