The Lake Erie Monsters will be an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They will begin play in the 2007-08 AHL season at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The team name, referring to Bessie, a creature of local folklore, was announced at a press conference by Dan Gilbert, owner of the Monsters and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA basketball team[1]. The team will be the minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL.
