Lance Powell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Police Constable Lance Powell is a fictional character in the ITV drama The Bill. PC Powell's callsign is '363'. He was portrayed by Ofo Uhiara
Lance is a somewhat controversial figure being a black, gay and Christian Police Officer - the only such character to date in the show's history. Although Lance joins the Christian Police Association of the Metropolitan Police he fails to join the Black Police Association which others find difficult to understand. No reason is ever provided by him for not joining the Black Police Association and no obvious reason can be attributed to this.
[edit] Marriage
Lance and his boyfriend, Mark (a SO19 sergeant), make TV history after registering their relationship in a ceremony attended by their colleagues. The occasion is nearly stopped after Lance is kidnapped by some fellow Christians prior to the ceremony.
[edit] Death
Lance is liked by all his colleagues - even the more narrow-minded colleagues like PC Roger Valentine eventually accept him. Inevitably all of his colleagues are shocked and devastated when Lance is the latest victim of a serial killer who preys on homosexuals in November 2005.
[edit] Fan Reaction
The character proved unpopular with the fan base and was dropped from the series.[citation needed]
