[edit] LarryBoy makes his debut
LarryBoy made his first appearance in the VeggieTales episode Dave and the Giant Pickle in 1995 when he is not satistisfied with being "plain old Larry". He eventually learns that he can continue to pretend to be Larry-Boy but that he should not be ashamed of who he really is.
[edit] Larry Boy and the Fib from Outer Space
Later, VeggieTales released a LarryBoy episode entitled Larry-Boy and the Fib from Outer Space in 1997. In this episode, LarryBoy must save the town of Bumblyburg from a giant lie, which was created by the VeggieTales character Junior Asparagus. This video was very popular among its fans.
[edit] LarryBoy and the Rumour Weed
The episode was popular enough for Big Idea Productions, the creators of VeggieTales, to make a sequel entitled Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed and was released in 1999. In this episode, LarryBoy must save the town of Bumblyburg from a giant "Rumour Weed" which, of course, is spreading rumours about Bumblyburg's residents, which leads to misunderstandings and arguments. Sales continued to climb, prompting Big Idea to make a separate series for Larry-Boy. Instead of using 3D CGI animation, they used a 2D style of CG that looks similar to traditional animation.
[edit] LarryBoy 2D Series
The 2D LarryBoy series ultimately did not do well in sales; critics called it "a cheap animation series." (Big Idea had to stop the series, along with 3-2-1 Penguins!, by the end of 2002 due to declining popularity of both.) The series was originally a parody of the Batman television series; however, it also contains references to other superheroes, even from the Marvel Comics universe.
[edit] LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows!
The first episode, LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows, briefly shows Larry working as the mild-mannered janitor at Bumblyburg's newspaper, The Daily Bumble, alongside editor-in-chief Bob the Tomato, cub reporter Junior Asparagus and a whole host of new veggie friends, Larry the Cucumber must put on his plungers and fly into action as super-villain Awful Alvin unleashes a swarm of Angry Eyebrows on this otherwise friendly hamlet!
Can Larryboy convince the townsfolk to let go of their anger in time to stop this menace and his litany of lashes? And who will save Larryboy if he gets tangled up in Alvin's diabolical scheme?!?
Bonus Cartoon Short Included: "Fly by Might!"
[edit] LarryBoy - Leggo My Ego
In this second installement of the series, the Alchemist has returns to Bumblyburg! Along with his partner in crime and real-life mom, Mother Pearl. This crazed chemist has devised a diabolical plan to seize control of Bumblyburg and all its freedom-loving Veggie residents.
LarryBoy will need to discover that the root of the Alchemist's cunning chemistry is his own ego, and that that building himself up by knocking others down is making Bumblyburg vulnerable to the Alchemist's distorted delusions. However, before he comes to this conclusion, LarryBoy must face his own super charged SuperEgo!
Bonus Cartoon Short Included: "Cuke of All Trades!"
[edit] LarryBoy - The Yodelnapper!
In the third video of this series, trouble is brewing in Bumblyburg as Greta Von Gruesome, evil ruler of Zuchinia, terrorizes music fans everywhere by kidnapping the world's greatest yodelers! To unravel this dastardly scheme, LarryBoy must disguise himself as "famous" yodeler Noodle Blabberbop and bravely become Greta's next victim!
As LarryBoy goes to rescue the kidnapped yodellers, he tries to convince Greta that her greed will not fill the emptiness of her heart.
Bonus Cartoon Short Included: "A Polar Pickle"
[edit] LarryBoy - The Good, the Bad, and the Eggly
In this fourth and final episode of the LarryBoy 2D series, a diabolical team of Larryboy's archenemies has spawned a sinister plot to turn all of Bumblyburg into ... over-easy eggs!?! To make matters even stickier, the Dark Crow -- the Fabio of fruit -- is elbowing in on our hero's home turf.
After quarreling and bickering for a while over jurisdiction and passage rights, Larryboy and the Dark Crow learn to work together before it's too late to defeat the menacing evildoers.
Bonus Cartoon Short Included: "Merry-go-Wreck!"
[edit] LarryBoy 3D returns
In the Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie DVD outtakes LarryBoy makes an appearance instead of the "underwear" in the scene where the veggies almost drive off road.
The next appearance of LarryBoy was in Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler in early 2006. He comes at the closing countertop scene and tells Bob The Tomato to "wrap this up Bob, dress rehearsal for the next show started in two minutes".
[edit] LarryBoy and The Bad Apple
Big Idea's Veggie Tales episode, LarryBoy and the Bad Apple, has three console video games based upon it, for the PlayStation 2 , Game Boy Advance and the Wii. Along with those releases they released new LarryBoy toys, apparel, and even a new soundtrack, which includes a new LarryBoy theme song.
In 2004 Big Idea announced it was developing a GameCube game based on the VeggieTales franchise. However, in late 2005, BigIdea denied the project still existed. A few speculate that the project was ditched in favour of the Wii version, published by Crave Entertainment
In LarryBoy and The Bad Apple, LarryBoy, Alfred, Petunia, and Mayor Blueberry all have to fight the Bad Apple, a.k.a., Temptation. Each of the characters, even a super hero like Larry Boy, has a weakness. Alfred loves cartoons and Petunia loves video games. The Bad Apple tempts all the characters to do what they want while she attempts to take over Bumblyburg. Each one of the characters lets temptation in, and only with the help of those around them can they get back out again.
In this latest LarryBoy movie, LarryBoy and Bumblyburg have undergone several changes. LarryBoy's costume has been become more rounded on the belt and mask for a more dynamic feel. This time he takes some cues from Spider-Man in addition to his Batman like qualities. His suction cups are used to swing through the city and the cover of the movie shows LarryBoy in mid-swing with roof tops surrounding the edges similar to a Spider-man 2 movie poster instead of with the LarryBoy/Batman signal used on the first two. He even delivers the line "With great chocolate comes great responsibility". To accommodate his new swinging, Bumblyburg was redesigned as a larger city with a higher skyline. This is also the first LarryBoy movie made since Big Idea updated their software for more action sequences and higher quality of animation.
This movie references Batman. At the end of story Bob comes out with a pot on his head and a purple mask with lightning on the pot. Larry asks, "Bob what are you doing?" Bob replies, "I'm not Bob, I'm the Red Wonder... or Bobin, but I'm leaning towards the Red Wonder." This is a reference to Robin the Boy Wonder.
[edit] Other Larry-Boy Facts
- Larry-Boy's headquarters is the Larry-Cave, located deep under Larry's stately manor. He is assisted by his manservant Alfred, played by Archibald Asparagus, who loves horticulture and labors diligently at the Larry-Computer. Larry-Boy drives the Larry-Mobile, which can function as car or jet (and even earth-borer). His costume includes all sorts of gadgets, including his "super-suction ears," which are plungers attached to grappling lines. His belt (which has his initials "LB" in silver), contains a speaker, through which Alfred can communicate to him. His catch-phrase is, "I am that hero!"
- The 2D series is currently running on qubo.
- In the original 3D series LarryBoy's super-suit didn't have a cape, though he wears one in the 2D series.[citation needed]
