[edit] Elton John: The Red Piano
The Red Piano show is performed at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas by Sir Elton John. It was originally scheduled so that Celine Dion could take time off from her shows and that her and Elton John would alternate their performances so that each performed every other evening.
[edit] Popularity
The show became so popular that Sir Elton was asked to sign a five year contract with Caesars Palace. He will perform 128 shows over those five years.
[edit] Lavishness
Elton John is of course known to be lavish, but, the Red Piano show takes lavishness to a whole new level. The stage at Caesars Palace is the biggest in the US at 128 feet in length. With John at a piano it can of course be difficult to make full use of a stage so big, whereas Celine Dion is able to make use of the space. It was decided that David LaChapelle would be drafted in to create video sequences for the big screen behind the stage. LaChapelle had already created a video for Elton John, for his song 'This Train Don't Stop There Anymore'. This video is used for the Red Piano Show for the song 'Rocket Man (I Think It's Gonna Be A Long Long Time)'. There are also inflatable props on the stage. Amongst the items depicted are a Cherry, Banana and a Cream Cake.
[edit] Interaction
For the song 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)', the front row of the audience are permitted to walk onto stage and dance at the piano while Elton and the Band perform. So far their have been no seccurity infringements when this happens.
[edit] The Red Piano in Europe
Later this year, the Red Piano show will be taken to five locations in Europe: Versailles, Sevilla, Venice, Berlin and Moscow have been penciled in and fans are hoping that more will be added.
