[edit] Summary
Screenshot of a youtube video [1] of what is commonly referred to by pilots as "St. Elmo's fire". This image, however, is not of the diffuse corona discharge glow which is properly referred to as St. Elmo's fire, but instead is actually an image of the periodic static discharges which are seen to occur across the surface of the (insulating) glass windows of aircraft while experiencing strong electrical charge accumulation from flying through or near electrical storms. The lit cockpit controls are visible at the bottom left portion of the image.
