Lightwood
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lightwood Reservoir is in the town of Buxton, Derbyshire and is a beautiful wildlife reserve.
In recent years it has been drained, demolished and levelled out with the terrible loss of hundreds of fish, birds and small mammals. Two hard working volunteers named Alex Wheeldon, and Mike Leather worked from 2002 to 2004 to help bring back wildlife into the area and now a nature reserve has been set up and many wild animals visit the area especially Canadian geese. Lightwood resevoir is also the site of the famous Buxton water spring, it springs up far in the hills of the Lightwood valley, and is pumped down to the crescent in Buxton town centre.
