Lindsay Dodd (born August 12, 1954) held the world record for backwards walking as reported in the Guinness Book of Records 1974 and 1977/1978 editions. On the March 20, 1974, at age 19, he walked backwards for 52.5 miles or 84.5 km from Leeds to Ingleton in 14 hours.
The 1977/1978 edition mentions that the longest distance reported for walking backwards in 24 hours is 80 miles 128.74 km by Lindsay R. Dodd from Leeds, West Yorkshire to Kendal, Cumbria, 9-10 April 1976.
Lindsay has a very successful career in high quality TV productions, was BAFTA nominated as a film maker in 1992 and has won a string of awards.BAFTA CERTIFICATE He started his musical career as a soprano in the local church choir in the mining village of Burnopfield, County Durham, where he won awards. His biggest musical venture was the film Speleogenesis. Emmy Award winning cameraman Sid Perou was the Director of Photography on the film Lindsay assisted Sid by doing the lighting and he and Geoff Yeadon did the underwater camerawork. Lindsay edited Speleogenesis and produced, (with a group called Nomusic Ltd.) the soundtrack of the film. The film Speleogenesis won the Chicago International Film Festival Documentary award in 1981 and a string of other International awards. The film will be available online shortly.
Lindsay was also a member of the expedition team which travelled to Borneo in 1980 to explore caves in the Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak. He was with Andrew Eavis,Sid Perou,Geoff Yeadon, and Hans Friedrichon the second trip ever, and the first filming trip to enter what was to become Sarawak Chamber. The film of this event was subsequently transmitted in the television series The Realm of Darkness
During the 1970s and 1980s, Lindsay Dodd was a staff member at Yorkshire Television, working mainly in the Film Sound Department on a number of contemporary programmes. Dr. Rob Buckman wrote of him in his book "The Buckman Treatment" "with a lot of support and Nagging from Paul Dunstan" the following:- "We had various odd bods on sound - the oddest was, and is, the extraordinary Lindsay Dodd who firmly believes he is a character from a Rod Steiger movie, although he is not sure which one" First published in Great Britain 1989 by Macmillan London Limited (copyright Robert Buckman)
In the late 1990s, Lindsay achieved recognition by travelling to Chernobyl in the course of his work in television and was privileged to spend a great deal of his life studying and filming remote tribes in four different continents.MAURTIANIA NOMADSSIBERIA NOMADS All of these projects won multiple awards.
In 1999, Lindsay was part of Richard Brown's team (with Nick Lord of Sunset and Vine and others fromThe Speed Record Club) that attempted to break the World Record for the fastest 2 wheeled vehicle at Bonnevile Salt Flats. The attempt was successful in that Richard achieved the fastest one way pass ever recorded at that time. The bike travelled at up to 365mph. Lindsay was responsible for specialist camerawork and sound and fitted miniature cameras to the rocket powered bike. Lindsay also pioneered covert or undercover film making in the UK throughout the 1990s and in his spare time today gives lectures as"The Real Life Q"! LECTURE
In the 21st century, Lindsay became acquainted with Moose (Paul Curtis) and was involved with his dirt graffiti projects. Examples can be seen here andhere
Currently, Lindsay writes lyrics and assists in the production of musical and other entrepreneurial ventures.
