Talk:List of Albanians
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think it's good if this list is ordered by surnames as it used to be. Andres 15:05, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- <Domi> I sorted them without reading the discussions (sorry). Hope this is OK.
Just don't add new names if it's tedious, add only when a new article is written. Andres 15:22, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- I didn't just mean tedious to write, but tedious to read too. Especially since poeple might not realize that they are sorted by last name, and instead might think that it's a random list. Perhaps I should put them into categories, but I didn't want to do that since some people are hard to put in one category. You can revert it if you disagree, I don't feel that strongly about it, just thought it would look more orderly this way. --Dori 18:54, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)

- I have no problem when the names are ordered by surnames but you are right that some people might have. I imagine two ways out. First we may state at the beginning of the lists that the names are ordered by surnames (or names as in the case of Mother Teresa). The other way is that used in other lists of names in Wikipedia. It is like:
- Verlaci, Shefqet (see the edit box).
I have always thought this is tedious, unnatural and superfluous but this would solve your problem. What do you think? Andres 19:34, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)

- I guess I can mention the way the list is sorted. As I said, I don't have any big objections to it myself (as I started the list that way), but thought others might want it done differently. --Dori 12:40, 3 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I still think Mehemet Ali should be under M, as Ali was not his surname, or was it? As far as I know, there were no surnames in the Ottoman empire. Andres 19:13, 18 Dec 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Arian Avrazi
I don't know how you have gotten Arian Avrazi's name as a composer. I am albanian and I don't know him. He doesn't deserve to be in that list.
You should put the well known composer Tish Daija who past away last september.
Also, I saw some singers name like Anjeza Shahini etc, etc and I didn't see Vace Zela.
I'll appreciate if someone will check very carefully this website and specially this list before you update. I am an Albanian-American and I can say that it's not fair to put someones name who hasn't done anything or they don't have a long and good carrier as a artist.
sincerely, ellie
- As unë s'e njoh...The reason why you were reverted is that many vandals like to remove text from articles for no reason. Anyone may add and remove text from here. If you feel some entries need to be added or removed do so, but say something as to why in the Edit summary so that people do not think that you are vandalizing. Creating an account would also help. Let me know if you have any questions. Dori | Talk 03:28, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)
I took out Claudius as I know of no source that says he was anything but Roman. Perhaps Claudius II was meant? But in that case, so little is known about him, and so much of what is known is from entirely dubious sources, that it's difficult to make such confident assertions about his ethnicity. —Charles P. Illyrian characters cannot be used. They predate Albanian identity. Iskenderbey
I added Vasile Lupu. Most sources cite him as Albanian. Dahn 11:36, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Eftimiu spelled his first name as "Victor" (not "Viktor") - he opted for the main Romanian spelling. Dahn 11:41, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Have to take issue with the link to a list of famous Albanians at the bottom; Pan-Aryan National Front?

Link should be removed, IMO.
[edit] Ataturk is an albanian now ?
What is that all about ? A look at the meaning of the name Ataturk( Father of the Turks) leaves no doubt about his ethnicity.
To the person who keeps inserting him in - PLEASE STOP !
In this list there are some people listed as being of albanian origin, even though in their own wikipedia page they are listed as being of italian/greek/armenian/other origin, as for example Marisa Tomei, Danny de Vito, George Tennet, Sinan etc. Couln't someone make a cross-reference so that there are no contradictions betweeen the two pages ?
[edit] Some of these people are only of Albanian descent
E.g. John Belushi (born USA), Ferid Murad " born in Whiting, Indiana" (USA), Antonio Gramsci "born in Ales, Italy, on the island of Sardinia", Kristina O'Donnelly "Born in Rome, Italy ... she feels at home both in Ireland and the U.S.A."
It would be more accurate to remove these people from the page, or to rename the page "People of Albanian ancestry"
- In any case, the page name does not seem very ideal. I'm no expert, but I simply don't believe that Atatürk, Tancu Ciller and more than 20 Ottoman PMs all identify/-ied themselves as Albanians. Grouping people by ethnicity is always very problematic, and it is much simpler just to categorize people by their citizenship. At least unless the individuals in question primarily choose to identify themselves with something different than their citizenship. Valentinian (talk) 20:24, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alphabetical arrangements
Can somebody arrange the names by an alphabetical order? There is a chaos... --Aeternus 17:44, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
